Basket-ball was invented in 1862 Springfield, Massachusetts to the middle school YMCA (Young Man Catholic Association) by James Naismith. He was inspired by an old Maya ball game. He organised the 1^st match in the collège during that match a single point was scored by William Chase. Pupils had the idea to call this sport « Naismith-ball » but he prefered to call this sport « Basket-ball » which means in English « ball in a basket ». Naismith quickly established 13 rules to make that sport.

This sport consists of 5 players by team on the ground the purpose is to score the basket and prevent the over team of to score. In 1936, basketball became an Olympic sport at the Berlin's games. The NBA fonded in 1946. It is the championship the best known of the world which takes place in the USA. FIBA America means : Federation of Basket-ball American. The basket-ball is a very popular sport in the USA. One of the stars the most known in the basket-ball is Michael Jordan. Michael « air » Jordan gave his name to shoes Nike « air ».

Basket-ball became popular in the 1980s. Many families watch basket-ball. There were 23 million spectators last season. In 2009, the Los Angeles Lakers became the champions of NBA. The season 2009-2010 of NBA began the 27^th October 2009.
